The festival culminates in a once-in-a-lifetime parade where hundreds of sheep trailing through downtown Ketchum. Sun Valley is very proud of its sheep herding culture. You can find sheep herding easements throughout the valley and getting caught in herds of sheep during your morning commute is common in the spring and fall.
Sheep herds migrate north for the summer and then back south during the fall months. If you encounter a herd of sheep while driving, just be patient and watch the dogs and sheep herders work! It is truly a sight to see!
This event takes place the first weekend of October each year!
